This policy describes how GapPlate (“the app,” “we,” “our”) handles information when you use it.
Information we collect
Profile information you provide. When you set up GapPlate you may enter your age, gender, height, weight, ethnicity or preferred cuisines, and dietary restrictions. This is used only to set your nutrient targets and personalise suggestions inside the app.
Food and nutrition data you log. Foods, recipes, nutrients and diary entries you add, scan or photograph are stored so the app can track your nutrition over time.
How your data is stored
Everything above is stored locally on your device in a private database. We do not operate a server or cloud database, and we have no access to your data.
Third-party services
Google Gemini (optional). AI features work only if you add your own Google Gemini API key. When you use one, the app sends what that feature needs directly from your device to Google, using your key: for example a food or nutrient name, a meal photo you chose to log, the text of what you said when logging by voice, or profile details such as age, gender and dietary restrictions used to personalise a suggestion. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy.
Open Food Facts. When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database (openfoodfacts.org) to look up the product. Nothing else is sent.
Your API key
Your Gemini key is stored securely on your device and used only to authenticate the app’s requests to Google on your behalf. We never see it. If you create a backup file, it includes your profile and API key, so keep backups private.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not show ads or use advertising SDKs.
- We do not use analytics or tracking services.
- We do not collect or send your data to any server we operate.
Feedback and crash reports
Sending feedback or a crash report from the app opens your own email app with a pre-filled message. Sending it is optional and entirely under your control; nothing is sent automatically.
Deleting your data
Because everything is stored on your device, uninstalling the app permanently deletes your profile, diary and logged data, unless you made a backup with the app’s backup feature.
Children
GapPlate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
